Hello, I’m Joonas Ahtikallio photographer and sound artist based in Jyväskylä, Finland.
My work revolves around experimental and traditional photographic methods, with a focus on ecological approaches and contemplative practices.
I am deeply inspired by the relationship between humans and nature. My artistic process often explores how we observe and experience the world around us, blending slow photography, handcrafted techniques, and meditative workflows. Through my work, I aim to evoke a sense of presence, curiosity, and connection with the environment.

Approach
I work both digitally and in a traditional darkroom, where I experiment with alternative techniques such as plant-based developers, lumen prints, and cyanotypes.
I also incorporate sound into my work, blending natural sounds, soundscapes, or even playing plants into my works. This dialogue between sound and image adds new dimensions to my work, inviting the viewer to experience it in a multisensory way.
Expertise
Many of my works explore human detachment from nature, loss of connection and ecological collapse. Ecology is present both in my process and in the themes of my works. My work has been exhibited in Finland and abroad.
Workshops
Since 2017, I’ve been hosting workshops for people of all ages, focusing on traditional darkroom processes, pinhole photography, and experimental methods. My goal is to inspire others to discover their creative voice and reconnect with the natural world through photography.
